Distribution Upgrade locking up

Distribution Upgrade From 7.04 to 7.10 acts like it's locked up.
It has finished "Fetching the Upgrades" and is now attempting the "Installing the upgrades" and it is locked up at that point, mouse moves around and if I attempt to shut down process by clicking "X" a window pops advising me not to because it could make system unstable.
I have been setting here for a better part of a half hour and no movement of blue progress bar.
Should I panic at this point or go back to using Fedora.

This I have had too ... seems to hang. The exact place of the hang varies slightly.
I ended up doing a fresh install.
