Unhappy Display resolution settings not all there

Hi, I changed my display resolution to 832x624 from a higher resolution. Now all my resolution higher than 832x624 have disappeared and I cannot set a higher resolution. Does anyone know how I can get my higher display resolutions back.
Your help is appreciated, thanks.

how did you change your resolution???

Can you change it via

System-->Preferences--->Display??

If not then what resolutions are available by xrandr???

Did you check which video drivers youre using???

At one point I could change it through System-->Preferences--->Display??

But when I used System-->Preferences--->Display to change it from 1280x720 to 832 832X624 everything above 832x624 disappeared and I have not been able to change it back.

Try booting to recovery mode and choose the option: xfix fix video (or whatever it says exactly). This should auto detect your resolutions and make them available to you after you reboot back into Ubuntu in normal user mode.

EDIT: If that does not work, try using xrandr, as discussed in this tutorial from the Ubuntu wiki:

Thanks Tommcd.

Booting in recovery mode and using the xfix command did in fact work.

For anyone who does not know how to boot in recovery mode:
Boot system and hit ESC key when given the option.
Select recovery mode which is usually the second option.
Curser down until you see xfix and select it
After complete select Resume normal boot.

Thanks again.
