Some ISPs do require Windows and for that matter their own branded browser -- e.g. NetZero. Eathlink works fine with Linux and they offer a full suite of internet applications including POP mail. Earthlink is the class act of dialup. There are cheaper ones around if you must. Ask their support if their access access works with devices such as PDAs. For the most part the word Linux scares them. I've had Comcast and AT&T tell me I have to run Windows to use the Internet. They are of course crazy and stupid.
