"Detecting Hardware for CD-ROM Drive" hangs on alt install for 6.10

I am attempting to install 6.10 on a system with a single sata drive (promise chipset) and the install hangs as stated in the subject line once it gets to loading module trm290 for ide chipset support. This happens whether or not i put the "noapic nolapic acpi=off" flags when booting the install. (I'm not sure if those are relevant to my situation).

I'm sure someone with a better brain than I for flags can support or debunk this idea, but shouldn't there be a flag that passes noide to the kernel at boot time?

That perhaps could resolve the situation.

Also, a quick Google brought up several articles stating an issue in Edgy for not being able to see beyond channel 4 (ie, if you have multiple connections on the motherboard, you might want to try another and see if that resolves the issue).

Hope this weak reply helps, and if not, perhaps gives you the needed bump for someone more skilled to take notice. ;)

Cheers,
Lord Ghost
