To help you at all I think we need some more info, such as:
what programs are you using to play sound files?
what sound files are you playing?
what desktop eniviroment are you running?
I'm assuming that you want ALSA to work, but should that assumption be wrong - correct me, please.
Try this:
Make sure you are actually editing the correct mixer levels. For example, on my desktop at home - the GNOME mixer has two options. The first option lets me adjust my ALSA levels, but the second lets me adjust my OSS levels. Make sure you are adjusting the ALSA, not OSS mixer. (This can also occur in Alsamixer - but I have never seen it happen in Kmix)
I have the problems with all audio filetypes. wav, mp3, mpg, wmv, avi, system sounds, etc
I have the problems with all audio/video players. mplayer, totem, and system sounds
I have checked alsamixer and all the volume options are up

I have also found that the only two sliders that need to be up in alsamixer are the Master and PCM. Anything else for me just tends to complicate things and make it all harder. Try muting everything but master and PCM and then playing a sound file . Hopefully that will help. If not - check out this site http://www.krazypenguin.net/Ubuntu_D...ake_6.06_Guide to see if they can help you more than I can.
