Cursor "Locked" On Boot-Up
 

When the boot-up process completes the cursor is "locked". I have to unplug the USB mouse and plug it back-in. The cursor then works correctly.

Initially this problem appeared with the upgrade to Ubuntu 12.10. It then went away following some 12.10 upgrades.

When 13.04 was first installed, the cursor "lock" problem did not come back. Now, after a few days the "lock" problem has come back.

Rebooting the computer does not result in the cursor "locking"; which is good news of sorts.

Based on a basic internet search, others do not seem to be having this issue. But after making this post, I did run across a post that suggested using a different mouse. I had already done that, but it caused me to think of using the mouse's serial/usb connector and plug it into the mouse port instead of a USB port. After a full shut-down and restart, the cursor "locking" issue did not occur. However, before declaring any success, I would like to test it after the computer has been off for an extended period of time.

Any thoughts on how to fix?

Are there any other things you have installed? I don't have to worry about upgrades with slackware, but I remember my fear from the days of using ubuntu, fedora, and other continually upgraded distros, where a careless upgrade could silently nuke part of my systems custom functionality.

Not really. Only added KyMoney. So far, using the USB/serial adapter and plugging it into the mouse port rather than a USB port is working as an alternative "solution". So I suspect the problem is Ubuntu recognizing what devices are attached to a USB port.

After a few more boot cycles without the mouse cursor "locking", I anticipate stating that this alternative approach is "solved".
