Cpu frequency monitor

I am trying to figure out if cpu frequency monitor is really useful.

It is set for on demand.

With no programs running, it still shows 3.10 Ghz which is the top speed of my cpu.

Seems like the cpu speed would vary with the amount of cpu use ??

I think you have a multi-core cpu. Is that true? I think the speed would vary depending on what is actually running and what is the actual load. You will never be able to tell the real speed, because you measure your cores (which will obviously affect the measurement itself) and later you will display the result, but that is (the result) at that time already outdated. And also that kind of measurement is an average... So yes, that is an approximate value...

I have a quad core cpu.

So basically, cpu freq monitor is not useful in my case.

...and once again, if you actually provided some useful information (e.g. what is this ominous cpu freq monitor you are using?) you might actually get a useful answer.
