I'm new with GNOME so can anybody can tell me how to configure internet connection with Nokia+Ma-8620e USB data cable (CDMA phone)

I already have internet connection with SUSE 9.2 but I want have it on my Ubuntu too....becos I like this new distro...it's great..... so please help me....

I'm trying to find "wvdial.conf" in ubuntu but I cant find it

this is my setting with suse 9.2 and Kinternet so how if with ubuntu :

edit "wvdial" (/etc/wvdial.conf)--->

[Dialer starone]
Modem = /dev/usb/ttyUSB0
Baud = 230400
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = AT+crm=1
Init3 = AT+cso=33
FlowControl = CRTSCTS
Area Code =
Phone = #777
Username = starone
Password = indosat
Ask Password = 0
Dial Command = ATDT
Stupid Mode = 1
Compuserve = 0
Force Address =
Idle Seconds = 300
DialMessage1 =
DialMessage2 =
ISDN = 0
Auto DNS = 1

on terminal root "ln -s /dev/usb/ttyUSB0 /dev/modem" then go to YAST configure "network device"---->modem

"modems to configure" choose "configure"----> to change :
1. spesial settings "speaker on"---> turn off
2. then click details:
fill it with:
Baud : 115200
init1----> don't chnge
init2----> AT+crm=1
init3----> AT+cso=33
klik ok then next
in the menu choice "select internet service provider"
choose "custom provider" then clik next
fill it with:
provider name : whatever name
phone number : #777
username : starone
password : indosat

then clik next then in the menu selection select "connection parameter"
--->activate "stupid mode"

then.... whohaa I already can use my CDMA phone to connect to the internet........

so again....how to configure it with Ubuntu (I'm using Hoary 5.04)

thanx a lot

Gnome has a gui daemon for that un the gnome menue > system tools

you can use the internet configuration wizard or network device control

it helps if /dev/modem is pointing to your modem

er - hopefully you pointed /dev/modem to your modem...

Anyhoo - like I said - look for the gui is probably your best bet:
look in the gnome menue for something that sounds like "system tools" and look in there. There is usually something called "network configuration" or "internet configuration" or similar.

u can use the modem lights gnome applet if u want. But you just have to type them in the terminal, sorry i was a bit unclear. But if you use modem lights you have to edit your pppconfig profile a bit, so start up pppconfig again then change connection i do believe then advanced options or something like that haha has been a long time since i did this then go down to user add and delete the 2 dots you see and add your user name then go to previous menu and finished up by saving it over your old one. either way is good, sorry if the walk through is rubbish i'm thinking off the top of my head.

S'allright (English) - I'm used to it. Just take your time, read things back and adjust your language so you can understand it and our lo-ong experience with the language will be used to help us understand you.

Let's see if I can understand this... You have configured the modem and you can dial an isp, log on and so forth, but after a few minutes nothing happens? That right?

Does the system seem to "hang" - or do you unexpectedly log off - or what exactly? (I suspect that data flow goes to nill even though a connection is established.)

I usually associate this problem with internal Winmodems! Probably best to show us what your modem configuration looks like...

For Ubunto - there are a number of ways...

in GUI try:

computer > system configuration > network and click "add" to add a ppp0 interface
(you may need to remove your existing attempts first)

in terminal try:
man pppconfig for details

But since you have had a connection (if only a short one) it means that you have configured your modem ... so show us your configuration and we may be able to help more specifically.
