confiugre ubuntu services

What is the best way for configuring services? edit add remove... i am trying to find out what i should delete so as to free some memory

install bum.
Boot Up Manager.
Installable by apt-get
Info of the different services and easy to manage

hmm. if i search in synaptic it is there.
