Configuring squid to use thunderbird and socks.

Dear all,

How do i configure squid proxy server to use thunderbird and socks for chat. If the machine is connected directly to the internet, Thunderbird has no problem, but when it is configured to access the internet through the squid proxy running on Ubuntu Studio 8.04, it says "failed to connect to imap.gmail.com" .

I have added the SSL and SMTP ports in the safe ports list in squid.conf, but this didn't work.

Any help is appreciated
Avinash

I have configured Thunderbird to download google mail through IMAP and it doesn't work at my work place where Squid Proxy is configured. So, what changes should i make in squid to make this work.
