compiz fuzion and the #D cube don't seem to work in my new AthlonX2

i installed ubuntu from the DVD i downloaded and installed it for my father on his P4 and all the desktop effects work fine but the desktop effects don't seem to work on my athlon X2 with 2 GB RAM and 128 MB shared ATI x1250 graphics card.

also my 5.1 channel speakers don't seem to work, it's a built in REALTEK sound card in MSI K9AGM4 mother board.

can anyone please help me out ?

That is the problem right there.. You probably need to install the ATI driver. I imagine your father probably had Intel or Nvidia, thus why it worked out of the box.

Are you getting no sound at all, or do you just believe the sound isn't as good as it should be? RUn "lspci" in a terminal, and post exactly how it identifies your sound.
