compile problems

I recently downloaded gcc so I can compile software I've downloaded, but when I try to use the make command the terminal says "command not found." Does anyone have any idea where make is on Ubuntu, or where I can get it if necessary?

Never mind, I descovered how to do this.
sudo apt-get install build-essential
