hi, i got a new laptop today, i bought it just to use linux. i but the iso on my usb and it works fine on the pc, but when i try it on my new laptop i am getting 'boot error' and must restart and remove usb.

Check the bios setting and see if there is any reference to boot order or boot device.
If you have a system already running Ubuntu, I suggest you use Ubuntu's "Startup Disk Creator" to create your bootable Ubuntu usb drive. Try booting from an Ubuntu CD. It is possible you just copied the iso to your usb drive, that won't work. If you don't have a running Ubuntu system, try creating a CD using your Ubuntu iso file. Don't burn the iso file to CD. You need to create/burn a CD based on the iso file. Hope this helps. |
i got it on but there is no sound, i typed lspci -v | less in the terminal and there is no sound card listed. does this mean the laptops sound card is not compatible with linux?

You could also try running lshw in the terminal to see if the sound card shows up. You can try working your way through this Ubuntu sound problems guide: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449 |
