Check the bios setting and see if there is any reference to boot order or boot device.

If you have a system already running Ubuntu, I suggest you use Ubuntu's "Startup Disk Creator" to create your bootable Ubuntu usb drive.

Try booting from an Ubuntu CD.

It is possible you just copied the iso to your usb drive, that won't work. If you don't have a running Ubuntu system, try creating a CD using your Ubuntu iso file. Don't burn the iso file to CD. You need to create/burn a CD based on the iso file.

Hope this helps.

So you managed to install Ubuntu onto the laptop? Is that correct?

What sound card does the laptop have? What shows up under: system > preferences > sound in Ubuntu?
You could also try running lshw in the terminal to see if the sound card shows up.
You can try working your way through this Ubuntu sound problems guide:

Maybe but:

We need the make and model of laptop. If new model maybe but do you have the latest release of linux distro and which distro are you using?
