can NOT burn a successful Ubuntu Studio disc

I have tried a few, at low speeds, md5's check out.. if i try to install it will fail at 6% through when its supposed to install the "studio" programs, like 2d/3d editing, audio production etc. so i told the disc to check integrity and it failed on a jpeg... give me break lol a jpeg.

anything is appreciated, id love some help ;-)

How are you burning the iso? Are you burning from Windows or linux? And what program are you using to burn the disk?

If you are burning from Windows try Iso Recorder or Infra Recorder:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
Burn at the slowest speed and check the md5sums. I used Iso Recorder on Windows XP the first time I installed Ubuntu (3.5 years ago) and it worked well.

Perhaps you just downloaded a corrupt copy of Ubuntu Studio. Try downloading from a different mirror if possible.

You could just download and burn a copy of Ubuntu 8.10 and install the Ubuntu Studio multimedia packages and you will end up with the same thing. See this:

And welcome to the LQ forums!

Thats what I would do. I suspect you've gotten a bad ISO, since the error is so consistent.

Welcome!

well the funny part is... i have tried 3 different iso's and all md5's checked out. i also tried burning off of another pc.. im starting to think the only possibility is my drive has trouble reading.. which makes no sense. it does well with everything else. every time i runt he built-in integrity test it says this: "./pics/logo-50.jpg file failed the md5 checksum verification. your cd-rom or this file may have been corrupted" a JPEG!?!? leave it out for christ sake, ill do without it lol.

same for all iso's and all pc's, gotta be my drives reading.. weird. thanks for the welcome, and sorry for the LONG response.

EDIT: also its just so much easier to get studio rather than install all those apps, but that may be what i do..

I had the exact sane problem on the exact same file. I had burned the disk 5 times on a Windows XP machine. It ended up being the 40 pin ribbon cable used to connect the CD-ROM drive on the target machine. Replaced it with an 80 pin and it went right through. I know this thread is old but I found it while experiencing this problem and I thought I would share my experiences with everyone who might experience this in the future.

Good to know. There are often many threads about burning iso images. A faulty IDE cable is a good thing to check for when troubleshooting these problems.

turns out the most likely culprit is my disc drives book type. i had changed it to burn some stuff, and havent been able to change it back. i tried with an untouched drive and it worked fine.
