Can I speed up firefox?

I use ubuntu 5.10 Breezy.

I have the Firefox browser that came with the OS.

I remember at one time that you could type somthing into your browser address bar and it would take you to a page that would allow you to change some settings that would speed up firefox!

I cant remember how to do this!

Any Ideas?

Also...

Is there a way to speed up the process of opening applications IN ubuntu?

Seems kinda slow! I have an MSI board with a P4 Processor and 512 Ram, AND plenty of free space!

1. Applications->Internet->Firefox Web Browser

3. Use the Filter field to change the following parameters:
* network.dns.disableIPv6 - Set the Value parameter to true.
* network.http.pipelining - Set the Value parameter to true.
* network.http.pipelining.maxrequests - Set the Value parameter to 8.

User.js - Speed - The Extensions Mirror
http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=2875

Pick the one that applies both to your connection and the speed of your computer.

Also actually turning off IPv6 on your system itself tends to help as well.

My user.js settings:
/* Speed Tweak - Common to all Configurations */
user_pref("network.http.pipelining", true);
user_pref("network.http.proxy.pipelining", true);
user_pref("network.http.pipelining.maxrequests", 8);
user_pref("content.notify.backoffcount", 5);
user_pref("plugin.expose_full_path", true);
user_pref("ui.submenuDelay", 0);
/* Speed Tweak - Fast Computer Fast Connection */
user_pref("content.interrupt.parsing", true);
user_pref("content.max.tokenizing.time", 2250000);
user_pref("content.notify.interval", 750000);
user_pref("content.notify.ontimer", true);
user_pref("content.switch.threshold", 750000);
user_pref("nglayout.initialpaint.delay", 0);
user_pref("network.http.max-connections", 48);
user_pref("network.http.max-connections-per-server", 16);
user_pref("network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy", 16);
user_pref("network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server", 8);
user_pref("browser.cache.memory.capacity", 65536);
/* Speed Tweak - Another Tweak */
user_pref("network.dns.disableIPv6", true);

/* Tor Settings */
user_pref("network.http.keep-alive.timeout",600);
user_pref("network.http.proxy.keep-alive",true);

/* Disable network prefetching */
user_pref("network.prefetch-next", false);

If you have a big pipe into your computer for the internet (512k and up) you can up the net connection settings in firefox HEAPS - with no problems.. I have changed these values with no problems each firefox install... It makes browsing sites like eBAY very fast!!

network.http.max-connections : 72
network.http.max-connections-per-server: 24
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy : 6
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server: 2
network.http.pipelining : true
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests: 4
network.http.proxy.keep-alive: true
network.http.proxy.pipelining: false
network.http.request.timeout: 80

Good Luck! =)
