can anyone tell me whats in these folders i think i removed something

1. remove the preference file under /etc/apt
2. remove old version of j2sdk
3. re-issue the apt-get update command
4. remove other deps if needed
i cant figure out wht this is or how to do it or where it is , i cant delete the preference file , if you know how let me know , i dont know where j2sdk

Well I think that you said that you uninstalled the package manager. I'm guessing thats not good! Thats where you would find j2sdk.
And I did not mean that the link that I provided is exactly what your problem is. It only COULD be related.
So start there and eliminate possibilities. OR, what I would do is re-install.

My first install was from an iso that I downloaded from www.distrowatch.com Then I ordered a couple of free cd's from ubuntu (one for Mac, for my friend, and one for me)
