I'm sorry, my friend, I'm stummped!

At this stage, I would re-install.

How deep into your OS are you? I mean, have you had it very long? Can you re-install without having to backup a bunch of stuff?

How did you get the OS? Downloaded iso, Live CD from ubuntu?

If it was an iso, download it again and verify that all is good before burning it. Then install again.

Thats just what I would do. Sorry Friend.

Strange. Very strange.

1. remove the preference file under /etc/apt
2. remove old version of j2sdk
3. re-issue the apt-get update command

Well I think that you said that you uninstalled the package manager. I'm guessing thats not good! Thats where you would find j2sdk.

And I did not mean that the link that I provided is exactly what your problem is. It only COULD be related.

So start there and eliminate possibilities. OR, what I would do is re-install.

our rules and just play by them.

So you already re-installed? So, at this point, you don't know wether things are better yet correct?

I hope so, My Friend, cuz I Love ubuntu and want you to have the same experience that I am having!

My first install was from an iso that I downloaded from www.distrowatch.com Then I ordered a couple of free cd's from ubuntu (one for Mac, for my friend, and one for me)

Don't give up!
