Reformatted Beasta box now Can't install grub
 

I just bought a new laptop yesterday and it came with "Beasta" premium preinstalled. Now I'm trying to get Kubuntu feisty running on it and the installation stops with a fatal error saying that it can't install grub. Does anyone now how I can work this out and get the OS running?

There is an issue with the bootloader...this may help, but you may have to resort to a reload of windows, so I hope you have the discs....

I said that I just bought the laptop b/c I really needed one and I am still new to *nix. I love Linux however for work I still need windows to run some high-end graphics and 3D software. Trust me if I could just ditch "Beasta", dude...in a heartbeat.
Umm..this article uh they can actually install GRUB. I can't. It throws a fatal error when I try to install it.

"The source code for GRUB, and the ext3 filesystem are available for ms to inspect / learn how to co-exist with. The same does not apply to vista / ntfs. You'd have to ask ms why unpaid volunteers can reverse engineer ms trash, but ms can't read freely available source code to achieve the same end."

Hey Yoda.
This is what I would do:
You have already Vista premium installed so you have a product key for it. I would investigate getting a DVD copy of Vista Premium from "a friend", and then wipe your hard-drive including the rescue partition that will be installed there. Then reinstall Vista from the CD (after partitioning your hard-drive) and then install Ubuntu. This should work, and as far as I am aware is perfectly legal because you have a OEM key for Vista (don't quote me on that). If it doesn't work (i.e Vista won't install) then I'm sure you must have an old copy of XP to hand ;). Vista sucks ass anyway, eats CPU and doesn't look half as good as Feisty with Beryl running.

Grub problems still
 

I wiped the hard drive, partitioned and attempted an install. I still get the same friggin error! Grub is being stubborn. "Beasta" is gone but it still won't go. Does anybody know what's going on?

I would guess that grub is being installed on the MBR..If so
does you bios settings allow the MBR to be overwritten?
