Can't bring up console
Ubuntu Dapper Drake, Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop, let me know what else you need to know.
Since I've installed Ubuntu, I can't bring up the console. I boot directly into X, everything works fine, etc. But I cannot press ctrl-alt-F1 and get to the first console. I get a big black screen with no text.
I initially thought that there was something configured wrong, but I've NEVER seen a distro that didn't have at least one tty running in the background. I'm starting to think its a graphics / resolution / switching issue instead, but am unsure about how to prove this.
The relevant line in my inittab currently looks like this:
1:12345: respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty1
I have all the rest of the terminals currently commented out. My default runlevel is set to 5.
Any ideas?
