I have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 and want to connect to the internet via my wireless router,
There are several panels to fill in which I do not understand, these are:- SSID, BSSID, Mode:- infrastructe/ad Hoc option, Device MAC address, Cloned MAC Address,
Can anyone help please?

This is on the router:

mode master (I think) If it's just the 2 you menrtioned, t5ry ad hoc first
SSID - some name for your network - preferably anonymous enough so that neighbours won't identify your ssid as you. You may have to enter it in the pc so remember it.
BSSID - new one on me. ESSID is actually SSID

I think that BSSID is similar to the SSID, but it's the MAC address of the router. Typically, ADHOC is found for a computer creating a 'Wireless Network' for others to connect to through their computer. So if you have a laptop with an eth0 and wlan0, you can plug the network into the eth0 and create a wireless network for others to access via your wlan0.

Typically, you will just fill in the SSID which is the name of your wireless network. Leave the mode on Infrastructure (not ADHOC). In the second tab, put in your wireless security type and key.

Thanks for your replies, I have had to put the Linux project on hold for a few weeks but will try out your sugestions when I have another attempt.
