Boot Splash Screen

Hey Guys,

I Have been using Ubuntu - Gnome and a few days ago installed the KDE package as well. That has changed the boot process splash screen from the default orange Ubuntu to a blue Kubuntu one and I have no idea how to change it back. This is a very minor problem but it is becoming annoying not finding an answer... any ideas ?

Thanks,
Alex

If you're talking about the Grub splash screen, what you need to do is go into

/boot/grub/menu.lst

look for this line

splashimage=(hd0) etc...
or
splashimage=/boot/grub/ etc....

and change your splashimage.

this is where you can change the splash image to whatever you want. Also make it easy on yourself and put all of your images in /boot/grub or /boot/grub/splashimage. And one more thing have a look here.

That looks like a really cool patch - saddly it is not exactly what I was looking for. My problem is after selecting the OS to boot (with Grub ). I am concerned with the background when the system goes through its bootup.

Thanks for your help - will deffinetly be playing with that one soon

bluedog you getting the same thing right?

When loading modules... you don't get the brown/orange Ubuntu logo but rather the kubuntu blue.

That is what we are refering to right?

I'll try posting in the "official" ubuntu forums too to see if I can get anything. If I get something I'll post a link for you. By the way I go by same name there too.

Later.

But that link does look interesting. Since I have swapable hard drives, I'll load up a test system to try it out on. First things first, I'm in Battlefield 2 fighting now and will get to this later.

what a little bit of research can find...

to revert to the default ubuntu (brown) screen issue the following

sudo ln -sf /usr/lib/usplash/usplash-default.so /usr/lib/usplash/usplash-artwork.so
sudo dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-$(uname -r)

a very good tutorial on how to further change that screen is here

ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-82835.html
(add http - apparently since I am a newbie... can't post links)

and, finally found the correct terminology - that screen is called by a program called usplash

Thanks all
