Blank screen and hang up on logout/reboot/halt

Hi all.
I'm new to this forum and pretty new to GNU/linux/unix. I'm thankful for any help I might get from posting my question here!

I'm running Edgy Eft with Fluxbox and got an odd error after installing a new widescreen TFT (1680x1050, HorizSync 30-81 VertRefresh 56-75, model Samsung 226WB).
The monitor seems to be working properly with the system except from one issue:

When I logout, reboot, halt or choose exit in Fluxbox all I get is a blank screen and a system hang up.

- What logg-files, command outputs or specs would be interesting for you to see in order to help me solve this issue?

- Is it important to have "vga=???" specified in my /boot/grub/menu.lst? Cause I don't have that. I added "vga=ask" but didn't learn much from doing it (I'm not exactly certain what to look for...) although I found out that the last 3 vga-options that I got from running the "scan"-command during boot, all lead to a blank screen.

I looked for similar questions here on LQ but couldnt find anything on the Ubuntu thread, so another member thought it would be a good idea to post here.
Any advice, please, cause I'm just guessing myself through all issues I'm having on my new system. Even though I get frustrated now and then from not finding solutions very quickly - I still love GNU/linux for it's openness and the community for being so helpful! :)

Some combinations of kernel/NVIDIA driver/X versions don't restore the console correctly.
Try setting "vga=normal" so the console runs in regular EGA/VGA 80x25 text mode.
If you have a NVIDIA card with the binary drivers installed, try a different version. The latest (97.55) works just fine (for me at least). I had this kind of problem with NVIDIA 7x.xx.
