I just installed Ubuntu on a Toshiba Laptop.
The thing is that after grub starts to boot the system, only one line is shown on the screen and after that everything goes black.
After I press ctrl-alt-f6 everything returns to normal. The system continues to boot.
What is wrong? How can I make the laptop boot normally?
It has a ATI graphics card....
so can you boot in to the GUI at all or dose it keep going back to the Grub loader, if you start it in failsafe and when it comes to the command line type startx and see wht error you get
I 've managed to solve it.
It would seem that the splash screen resolution was wrong, and the laptop couldn't show it, thus a black screen.
I've changed it to 1024x768 and it works like a charm right now
