black screen and freeze when shutting down


Hi!

I installed ubuntu 6.10 64bit and everything works fine...

Its only when i try to shutdown, or logout or ctrl-alt-(1-12) that i get a black screen and my pc seems to freeze...

im using fglrx drivers on an ati x850xt pe and an lcd screen at a native 1280x1024

Please help

You could try this:
Edit the file /boot/grub/menu.lst
Find the line that refers to the kernel you are booting, and add vga=normal to the kernel line, so it looks something like this:

kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.15-27-386 root=/dev/hda5 ro quiet splash vga=normal

Save the file,then reboot.

Tried that... doesnt seem to help

I really hope there is a fix for this...

Sure you appended vga=normal to the right kernel line?
Please try dmesg | grep vga=
You should see it there
