Backing up Firefox & Thunderbird
Hey everybody... I'm using knoppix 4.0 to back up some data on a HDD that is going bad. I was able to backup my entire home dir with no problem. Here's where I need some help:

1. Thunderbird email: I can't seem to find the thunderbird dir. I looked in my home dir, and did not see it. Where should I be looking? Since I'm using knoppix, how do I get root access to the drive on Ubuntu?

2. Firefox bookmarks: Same problem here also. Don't know how to get to these dir's to just do a copy paste. All that I need from the Firefox dir is bookmarks.html, right? How do I get to these dir's using knoppix 4.0?

Thanks all...

I thought that I had it.... (LOL) I think that I need /etc and not /home/etc. The folder seems to be to small to contain my mail. How do I get to / on the HDD using knoppix 4.0?

OK, I'm totally confused.... =^) ... /home/etc is incorrect. When I mount the HDD. I get

When I go into etc, the mozilla-thunderbird dir has 4 items in it. 3 files and 1 dir called pref that has nothing in it. The 3 files are:

The last 2 files are the same size (923 B). auto-config.js is (228 B)

The Firefox dir seems ok. That just has text, and all I need are the bookmarks.

I also have some mail in Evolution that I need.

Profiles and bookmarks are under your /home/YourUserName/.mozilla-thunderbird and /home/YourUserName/.mozilla. Problem is you need to mount your hard drive in Knoppix, so it'll be under something /mnt/hda/home/username/.mozilla, or something to that effect. Not sure how to mount using Knoppix. I'm guessing if you type mount you can see the mounts. Maybe it's already mounted. If not, then try something like mount -t ext3 /dev/hd? /mnt/harddrive. Check your dmesg?

Thanks for the reply Micro420. The drives are mounted. I can navigate through some directories. I believe that my mail is stored somewhere else on the drive. I checked the locations that you mentioned and they do not exist in my home dir. On drive sda1, there is a folder called "root", but I believe that is different from /.

How do I get to / on the HDD using knoppix?

Thanks again....
