Ati control centre now not able to log-in

I have made a stupid mistake. In the add/remove I installed the ATI control centre now it only boots up as far as the initial boot up screen then the screen has a pattern all over it and goes no further. Is there anyway of getting back in so I can uninstall the Ati control centre? If not is it possible to back up my thunderbird settings using Puppy linux live? I really do not want to reinstall if I can help it.

In GRUB add the 'single' parameter to the kernel so that you would start in a recovery mode. Then Modify your /etc/X11/xorg.conf so that the video driver would be 'radeon' or 'radeonhd' or even 'vesa' in the Device section (I guess at the moment it says: fglrx.). ATI needs to improve their proprietary drivers.
