Apt Broken?

Hello,

I installed a program to control my rx320d shortwave receiver. The software works buy now apt says I cannot install any packages until it is removed? I don't want to remove the software as I have hunted all over the net to make it work. Is there a way to exclude it from apt or something?

Thanks for the help!

Ubuntu 7.10 BTW!

You could this so the system does know the rpm is installed.
First remove the rpm for the radio. rpm -e name_of_rpm
Don't include the .rpm extension since it is installed it is no longer a file.
Next extract the contents of the rpm with rpm2cpio.
rpm2cpio name_of_radio_rpm.rpm | cpio -dimv
This extracts a copy of the directories like /usr and directories under it.
Just manually copy the files from each directory to the ones on the system

Example:
rpm -e flash-plugin
rpm2cpio flash-plugin-9.0.48.0-release.i386.rpm | cpio -dimv

./usr/lib/flash-plugin
./usr/lib/flash-plugin/LICENSE
./usr/lib/flash-plugin/README
./usr/lib/flash-plugin/homecleanup
./usr/lib/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so
./usr/lib/flash-plugin/setup
./usr/share/doc/flash-plugin-9.0.48.0
./usr/share/doc/flash-plugin-9.0.48.0/readme.txt

Now I just create flash-plugin in /usr/lib and copy the files to it.

now the rpm database does know the rpm is installed.

Sorry, just seen apt as the update tool and just thought rpm based distro. Did not notice I was under the Ubuntu section. I would think the same would apply to the Ops issue.

That's funny -- APT was invented by Debian to manage to manage .deb's.

But you probably knew that.

Uhhh, yeah... apt was definitely .deb based...

Anyway, what's the error that apt is giving you? You might want to try
Code:
sudo aptitude hold <package>

Hey corbin,
I just wanted to know where you got 'rx320d' from. I have one myself, and cannot get the rx320-0.6.1.tar to make nicely. 'rx320d' worked great under Ubuntu 7.04, why not with 7.10, guess we're the little voices not listened to.
