Any way to log as root in Ubuntu

I am new to ubuntu.In the installation I had given a user name and pass word.Now I can log as a other user but not as a root.I want to log as root.Is there any way to log as root.

Without enabling the root account: sudo su

Otherwise enable the root account.

Don't login as root, use
su, sudo, gksudo

Haven't tried it since I did not need to login as root.

I assume that this is old news after all of the above:
sudo passwd root
##at the prompt enter your user password
##then at a new prompt, enter the new root password

Note that your admin utilities will still ask you for your primary USER password and not the ROOT password. This to me creates too much confusion.

The BEST way to solve the Ubuntu no-root-user nonsense is to not use Ubuntu. (but that's another story........

)
