Amarok: loading playlists

I'm trying to get Amarok working. I try to:
Playlists > add media
I can open the folder I want and get a list of files, but I need
to give it a file name, and click OK. It doesn't load a playlist.

Using Amarok on Slackware 12.2. I think KDE 3.5. I just selected
playlist > add media and it loaded the playlist. Sometimes I just
want to load some files to play not to save as a playlist.

I also can't find a help file for Amarok.
Do I need to install some more packages to get more functionality?

I used the alternate CD for Kubuntu. Does this give me the same
install as the Desktop version?

Thanks.

I am not really getting what you are trying to say. Are you trying to load individual media files after you have already opened a playlist (or without a playlist at all)? What exactly happens when you do "Add Media...", do you see the files you want to load?

Have you tried simply dragging the media you wish to play into the Amarok window?

I can load files from the collection files by right clicking on them.
What is Playlist > add media for? The last version of Amarok I
used I could add a directory or some files to the playlist with this.

Thanks
