After today's updates Galaxy S4 is not recognized as well as other things wrong

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, Gnome desktop. After updates this evening a pop-up said I needed to restart my system. After restarting my Galaxy S4 is not recognized as before the restart, I cannot highlight a block of text either in a message nor using Gedit. Those are the ones I know of so far. I've only been running Ubuntu for a few weeks now so I'm still in the learning stage I had to upgrade to a new distro when my old Mandriva 2010.2 box I've been very happy with it until this happened. One addition I forgot initially previously the phone would show up when connected in Nautilus this has since stopped happening also. I've attached a screenshot of a portion of my syslog showing what happens when I connect my phone to a USB port and I have tried all USB ports. Any ideas/advice would be appreciated.

Chris

Hmm, the issue with highlighting txt with the mouse is fixed. I'd activated 'snippets' plug-in in Glipper. That apparently caused that issue, I just plugged in my S4 and the 'Open with Shotwell' pop-up just came up and it's shown in Nautilus so that issue is fixed also. Don't know what caused it initially. Sorry about the 'noise' guess I was getting frustrated last night.
