Question (Advice Needed) Programming in C/C++/Java/PHP in Ubuntu

I've decided to set up a Ubuntu box, and I'd like to use it as an alternate programming system.

However, I've never used Ubuntu before the install (which occurred about 2 hours ago). I'm looking for any suggestions or pointers on getting various compilers/IDEs installed.

I'd prefer IDEs as I'd like to use it to get used to the new environment, but I can live with text editors (with a compiler).

The languages I'm looking at are: C, C++, Java, PHP. Separate IDEs for each language are not a concern.

I'd like to know of any really basic tutorials on installing IDEs and/or compilers. I'm so new, I'm not sure how to get things installed. I've read lots of 'install the binary' but not 'how' to install the binary. Baby steps... I'm (god forbid) a noob.

For a frame of reference, I've been using Visual Studio for C/C++ and Eclipse for Java/PHP.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

do a search for adding repositories to ubuntu. There is a site that will set you up with a new sources.list, then there are lots of ide's. you have ubuntu, open synaptic and search for ide, then install to your hearts desire.
