Adding firejail to favorites launcher

Hi,

I have edited the shortcut

Code:

sudo nano /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop
and added firejail to the exec line.

When I click on Activities then Firefox it opens with firejail sandbox but when I add Firefox

to the favorites bar and click on Firefox on the favorites bar it opens without firejail sandbox.

Any solutions ?

How did you add Firefox to the dash - did you do it through Activities?

Yes I added FF through Activities but when I click on Firefox in the dash it launches without firejail sandbox.

I don't use GNOME. If you right click on the Firefox icon on the dash, is there a Properties option and, if so, what does it list for the associated command line?

If I right click on the FF icon I get

All Windows
Open a New Window
Open a New Private Window
Remove from favorites
Show Details
Quit

If I click on show details it opens Ubuntu Software.

Ok, sorry, I'll need to leave you in the hands of someone who knows more about GNOME. What it does look like though is that the version of Firefox on the dash runs Firefox directly without recourse to the firefox.desktop file.

You could always create your own custom launcher on the desktop and drag it onto the dash to see if that works.

Anyone ? Any ideas ?

Just for your info, that's not how we work here on LQ, hifi100. It's considered rude.

So, did you try creating your own custom launcher, or did you just decide to ignore that piece of advice?

Sorry didn't know about that. In ubuntuforums.org you can bump every 12hs. I guess each forum has its own rules. Sorry about that.

I was given this link

https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubunt...favorites.html

According to the above link I am supposed to add items to favorite bar by going to activities.

Did I miss something ?

No problem at all. Yes, you created the dash item the correct way as far as I can see. What I'm suggesting, although I'm not a GNOME user and no real authority on the subject, is that if something doesn't work then try another way to do it.

Searching on the web for "ubuntu 18.04 create desktop launcher" returns the following page:

https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-creat...c-beaver-linux

Work through it and create a desktop launcher that calls Firefox with Firejail incorporated in the command. Test it and see if it works. If it does, try dragging the launcher onto the dash.

@hydrurga

I read that link. What I have done in the mean time is this

Code:

cd /usr/share/applications/
Code:

cp firefox.desktop /home/ubuntu/Desktop/
As you can see its doing the same thing mentioned in that link.

Only difference is I copied existing .desktop entries instead

of creating manually.

Now I can open FF with firejail by clicking the FF icon on my desktop.

The irritating part is I still cant use the favorites launcher.

Smart thinking.

Will that .desktop file not drag and drop onto the dash?

Unfortunately it wont. I tried.

hydrurga 05-04-2018 06:33 AM

Does right-clicking on the .desktop file offer any useful options?
