add ascii output command

hello,

I have 20 different ascii outputs (output_00.dat output_01.dat etc) 1.2GB per one. How can I create one total.dat file with all of them?Is there any command like:
>>hadd total.root*root ??

Thank you in advance

Code:
cat output_??.dat >> output_total.dat
will append the content of each file to the new file output_total.dat.
