accessing wireless nic

I have been trying to load various distro of Linux on a computer I am working on. Ubuntu, my normal OS, wouldn't load but I was able to install Edgy Eft without any problems. The only problem is the only Internet access I have is wireless from an AP at this condo. Which program or command can I use to gain access to the card. It is a Foxconn WLL- 3350 and uses rt 2500 . . . I can see it listed in the devices. I just don't know how to communicate with it. Can anyone give me the name of a program or the commands to use.

Thank you, Tim

I have gotten that far. I used:
iwlist ra0 scan
from that I got the AP cell mac address BUT I still can't connect to the network. I have tried:
iwconfig ra0 ap xx:xx:xx...
it seems to accept the command but where do I get it to connect to the network?
