I am completely new to Linux and installed the 6.06 OS without problem. I am enjoying exploring the OS but have initially noted two issue that I am hoping someone could advice me on:

Firstly I have been noticing that quite often the buttons that you are supposed to click on are rendered incorrectly i.e. all "fuzzy" and only appear normally when I move the mouse pointer over them. I am running on an ATI Radeon 7500 card if this helps.

Also it seems that sound is only coming out of my right hand speaker, I am using an M-Audio Revolution 5.1 card with a Logitech 2.1 speaker setup.

Any help or advice on these two issues would be greatly appreciated.

Install easyubuntu from the ubuntu site. It will make it simple for anyone to get much of what you need for your system. This includes the 3D ATI drivers that may help your button problem. In the upper right toolbar there is a speaker icon. Hover the cursor and it tells you the master volume setting. Right click it and select Open Volume Control. You can configure the muting and volume of your sound sources here. There's a lot of great documentation available online that should be helpful.
