I agree! I think Ubuntu works better (as a desktop) than any distro! I used to be a Fedora fanboy (pardon the Apple reference), but I could never could get the wireless working; and also my nVida graphics card wouldn't work right (although when it wasn't crashing it was nice )

Then I tried Ubuntu...WOW what a difference! Everything worked "out of the box". My graphics card on my desktop works flawlessly! And my wireless was detected (with the "Ristricted Drivers") and works great on my laptop.

Although I do feel that Solaris makes the best server (personal opinion...Red Hat is good too ), I think that Ubuntu is making GREAT gains in the desktop market. Say what you want about Ubuntu (and if you prefer another distro as your desktop...that's fine to), but you can't deny that Ubuntu is making a good name for Linux.

So, 3D in Ubuntu is better than... something else you have tried? Fedora 6? Anything else? What are you comparing here?

This isn't to dump on you - it's just for posts to be useful, it helps if they are specific.

I have recently experimented with the latest Ubuntu, Mandriva and openSuse. I don't know why but it's Ubuntu that comes out the worst (with an Nvidia 7600GST):
Ubuntu 8000fps
Mandriva 10500fps
openSuse 14000fps
Not only does Gutsy get beaten by the other two, it scores 2000 less than Feisty.
