32-bit compatibility on 12.04

Hi,

I thought I indicated I wanted 32-bit compatibility when I installed 64-bit 12.04. How do I verify it? What next if it's not there?

I'm trying to install MPLAB-X 1.85 which is 32-bit. It works on my 32-bit Gentoo netbook, but the install fails on my 64-bit Kubuntu system. Could it be a library issue?

Thanks
Jim

I personally do not know much about this issue. However, I use xubuntu and it generally does a great job of hidding all of this type of crap if you want it to. Have you installed anything that was compiled for a 32bit target?

You may need to install specific MultiArch "stuff" in order to support this. See if installing a multi-arch library helps/solves the problem.

If this does not work, then it would be helpful if you could post the output of apt-get here.

Thanks. I searched for arch and multi and came up with binutils-multiarch. Installing it pulled in a lot of other bits as well.

Now MPLAB-X installs and runs.

It's amazing how much faster a quad-core i7 is than a single-core Atom...
