I have mixed feelings about Mepis. I am glad that another distro is available, but I am disturbed by the very vague licensing chosen for Mepis. As far as I can tell, some of the apps are GPLed, but others and not. In fact, I believe that some of them are not even free software at all. I was shown a email by Warren once in which he was asked what the licensing status of Mepis was, and his answer was that "free software zealots should look elswhere".
I hope that this has since changed and that we can all welcome Mepis to the free world.
Is that the case, or still not?

Sorry if this is the wrong place - I am a newbie around here - I just though that the issue deserved attention.

thanks for the link. I read the discussion with great interest (and with as much regrets about the path chosen by Warren for his distro).
Cheers!
