LXer: YouTube, Vimeo Ditching Flash for HTML5

Published at LXer:

YouTube and Vimeo is kicking Adobe's Flash to the curb in favor of the sharp new HTML5. Both YouTube and Vimeo have announced that they are launching HTML5-based players on their video streaming sites, thus booting out the long-standing champ of multimedia delivery, Adobe Flash. Does not support Firefox

FYI. YouTube's new HTML 5 implementation does not use OGG to play back video, but H.264 instead siting lack of quality. However the difference between the two is almost nill. This means that Firefox and Opera users wont be able to view YouTube video's in HTML 5. The question of legacy support for Flash has not been addressed. It is possible that we wont be able to use YouTube in the future. I encourage everyone to visit this website to petition YouTube to support OGG.
