From the article...
Operating Systems:
Don't buy: Linux.
The world's cheapest operating system is the darling of every do-it-yourselfer and the potential bane of every cheapskate user. You'll save money and, I bet, lose your mind if you switch to Linux. Note to DIYers: This advice is intended for middle-of-the-road tech consumers. You, with the screwdriver in your hand, please feel free to download as many copies of Ubuntu as you want.
[I think I figured this one out. Lance must be from one of those dimensions where everything is backwards. - land0]
Lance Ulanoff is the BIGGEST IDIOT that PC Mag has ever hired. And given some of their idiots, this is truly a colossal achievement. He is beyond clueless about anything that is not created and blessed by Microsoft, and generally should be ignored.
The fact that he has attained the position of chief editor of PC Mag should tell you what a complete waste of trees it has become.
Once upon a time, it was actually a very good mag for both power users and people trying to learn about a PC. PC Labs took products out back and roughed 'em up a bit and then bragged about it in print. And the articles dealt a lot with how computers work and how you could make it work better. They've always been in Microsoft's pocket, but it has honestly gotten much, much worse over the past few years.
And if you need more proof that Ulanoff has had a Microsoft lobotomy, in his latest "column" he calls users sticking with XP instead of moving to Vista "misguided".
To my way of thinking that makes them a whole lot smarter than Ulanoff
Eh--the article was lighthearted. Who reads such a list for real information? Notice that his comments on Linux had the only disclaimer in the article:
