LXer: USB Drives in Slackware 12.0

Published at LXer:

In Slackware 12.0, USB plug and play support is not functional by default. In order to get such functionality working again, we will use a quick solution that will allow for use of HAL and enable KDE to recognize and automount our USB devices.
There was apparently some kinks to be worked out in this release with HAL and automounting of USB drives and so, according to the changelog, was disabled by default. We are going to enable this again and get USB plug and play working again in our KDE environment.

Personally, I would advise everyone to ignore those instructions.

The first part is OK, but you most certainly do not have to install any third-party packages to get this working.

Why don't people learn to follow instructions?

Furthermore, how TF can anyone possibly think that they're "blazing a trail" by getting HAL working with Slackware-12.0, when the thing was designed to work that way?

Sheesh.

I can confirm what rkelson says - USB support worked out of the box for me, both in and out of KDE. No fiddling or messing around at all.
