I don't know if I'ld swallow all that. First of all, those systems aren't all the same so direct comparisons aren't very reasonable. Win7, Mac, Ubuntu are similar classes and compete that is true. Android (also Moblin?) is(are) designed for small devices with power usage requirements. Chrome OS is designed as web centric and more likely similar to the mainframe/appliance architecture. Likely also, that Chrome OS will become a glorified web browser that feeds adverts constantly. Not really the same, nor likely to draw the same user market. Even given that it's reported to be open source, which means that Ubuntu (and all other Linux distros) should be able to keep up where it matters. Finally, we constantly have new Linux distros being created and they haven't made Ubuntu any worse. They take a few users away, but we haven't seen a significant user base reduction.
Chrome OS is a good thing. It going to stimulate OEM Linux support, provide a resource ($) for Linux marketing, (something that's definitely needed), and improve the Linux code base. It's a win win.
