There are rumors about the possible acquisition of Adobe by Microsoft, both company's CEOs have been talking about an alliance to face Apple. ...the NY Times said. " ...The meeting, which lasted more than an hour, covered a number of topics, but one of the main thrusts of the discussion was Apple and its control of the mobile phone market and how the two companies could team up in the battle against Apple. It is a scary thought, both are huge, evil monopolies ... only effect on Linux is no more proprietary flash player, which is actually a good thing.

I dunno, you wouldn't see flash but then suddenly silverlight would take it's place. Trading one problem for another.

Yeah, and then the only way to get 3D graphics, embedded audio, and embedded video in a Linux Web page is with HTML 5.0 (yawn).

So? Whats wrong with HTML5? I much prefer that over flash/silverlight, and unlike flash/silverlight, it is a W3C standard.

I actually like HTML 5, the problem is you have to *hard-code* graphics and pixel values.

HTML 5 is actually superior to Fla$h and $i£ver£ight, but with a harder learning curve :)

On top of this, there's very few sites other than Google's own that use HTML 5 instead of F£a$h and $i£ver£ight.

For 3D, I've actually found HTML5 Canvas to be just as bad CPU-time-wise as Flash. But hopefully WebGL will make things a little better in that area. ;)

You do realise that this makes the words practically unreadable, right? Adobe and Microsoft are both money making entities - you really need to get over that fact.

Another example of KKM (Kenny's Keyboard Malfunction). Quite a few members have commented on how daft it is, but he won't stop.

I wonder if Jeremy can create a word-filter for that sort of thing?...

That would be a nice improvement to LQ! Of course the downside is that it would only encourage the evolution of even more idiotic spellings of company names. Kenny seems to be fairly creative in this regard.

Wouldn't parsing all the words in all the posts also add an unnecessary load to the server(s)? I honestly don't know what kind of volume of data LQ has to cope with every day.

Yeah, like how spammers defeated the old dictionary-based email filters.

Okay, just what is wrong with satiric misspellings? It seems as though none of you know anything about them.

We don't know anything about it? Yet it has been around longer than you (or even I), and I have seen satirical misspellings long before you even touched a computer and web surfed for the very first time.

The problem I have with it, is that in a conversation in a forum or any other text medium (chatroom, instant message), is that it can get more time consuming deciphering the misspellings especially when an entire word or now even worse, sentences are replaced with characters for those trying to read it.

It is tolerable when used sparingly, and we are already aware of many people's distaste for Microsoft, etc, but in the long run, it is just annoying.
