According to the Economic News, a quantity of Linux based notebooks made by Quanta will be shipped before the end of 2005 and distributed to Nigeria, Argentina, China, Brazil and India. I did hear obout those $100 laptops just didn't think they will be available so soon, which by all means is a great thing for them developing countries. Any idea what the specs of those notebooks are (not that it matters at $100) and what flavour of linux they're running.

probably those people will eventually come out an idea providing a "on the road-side with a bench but under a coconut tree" paid service of cranking with the help of a "refurbished" air-compressor through a shaft at the side of that laptop with that crank handle pulled off ... but off-cause somehow they managed to find electrical supply to run their compressor ... in a sense this project also helps in further propelling their un-official economy sector ... btw :: if i happened to be in one of those countries again , probably i will smuggle a few units out or what ... . |
