LXer: Patents cut both ways for Microsoft

Published at LXer:

If I held Microsoft stock (which I don’t) I would be furious. Here is Steve Balmer focusing on Linux, making the tired claim that there is so-called Intellectual Property in Linux that violates patents held by Microsoft. Meanwhile Microsoft gets hit with a hefty patent violation of its own; 1.5 billion (yes, that is a “B”) for the use of the mp3 patent without payment of royalties. It appears that patent obligations are for others, not for Microsoft to worry about.

he he, the way of Mr. Steve Balmer using is worst than Bill Gate. I am not a lawyer and don't how true he is. I am worry whether Microsoft able to sue RedHat, Ubuntu and etc company for selling the open source products(Who know what license it really is).

By the way, it is funny that sometimes Microsoft stealing others people ideal too. Like add in tab in their IE7, add in 'executable permission' in Vista and etc. So Steve Balmer only keep quiet? Come on this is marketting fool! If open source stealing MS ideal, then same Microsoft is thief too (or maybe pirated too?)

Linux is growing up and Microsoft is worry that! Tomorrow is for open source community!! IT should not be expensive!! Software must be free!! (Ubuntu ideal)

Regards,
Ks

mm-the only thing i can think of is, i know that you can charge for open-source OS's as long as it is for labor and the supplies/shipping needed. i think if i go to a store and want linux it should be free, but if i call in for it and want them to send it to me, thats all-right. but, then you have windows. the worlds leading OS in crappy programming and they charge up to $400 for it. ?? doesn't make much sense.
