I think geeqie is the only one listed that has image preloading. This is essential when viewing large images otherwise you'll be waiting senselessly for each to load. There are a few others on sourceforge, and I also wrote my own.
2. That's actually quite a thorough survey. If you count Wine as an option (which it is for most users), then I suppose you could add Irfanview and Picasa.
