LXer: Navigate the Universe with Celestia!

Published at LXer:

Celestia is a captivating space navigator that allows you to explore and discover our known universe in three dimensions. Unlike most planetarium software, Celestia doesn’t confine you to the surface of the Earth. You can travel throughout the solar system, to any of over 100,000 stars, or even beyond our galaxy using zooming, point and go and time accelerating / freezing features.

slight bump after 3 Mo.
the above link looks dead so...

as one of the map makers and add on creators
( shameless plug for me and the others)
http://celestiamotherlode.net/
it IS RECOMMEND that you ( the person reading this) use the SVN pull of the "soon to be" Celestia 1.7

QT4 is now used for the GUI

Code:
 svn co https://celestia.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/celestia celestia
and on a working copy build it
Code:
autoreconf -v -i
./configure --prefix=/usr --with-lua --with-qt --with-cspice-dir=/opt/cspice
make -j
su
make install
for those who USE "qt creator" there is a 'celestia.pro' file

and check out the very high resolution planet Venus add on for a look under the clouds
