LXer: Microsoft Abandons Windows 8.1: Take Immediate Action Or Be Cut Off Like Windows XP

Published at LXer:

Microsoft MSFT -0.97% has been on a roll lately. Office for iOS (and soon Android), free Windows licenses for small devices, universal Windows and Windows Phone apps, Siri rival Cortana, even a promise to eventually return the start menu before Windows 9. But when it comes to Windows 8, it seems the company has a permanently loaded pistol aimed squarely at its feet.So it fits that just one week on from the launch of ‘Windows 8.1 Update 1’ (the smart upgrade mouse and keyboard users have long awaited) stupidity would strike once again.

So after digging their own grave they point the pistol at their head and start the countdown... I can't wait. I don't know why they fired Ballmer, even he wasn't insane enough to pull a stunt like this, and he ripped his vocal cords by screaming at the top of his lungs at a M$ conference once (maybe in Japan).

I've a Windows 8 evaluation copy in a VM and I found it funny how they have now put back the "Start" button and shutdown command in the start menu and have given the "Not Metro!!!" applications a close button in the top right. I though those of us who wanted these things back were supposed to be wrong and everyone liked the new changes -- you live and learn .
