LXer: Little Laptops With Linux Have Compatibility Issues

Published at LXer:

When the cheap laptops known as netbooks first came out over a year ago, computer makers were able to offer them at low prices in part by shipping them with the free Linux open-source operating system, rather than Microsoft's Windows. Since then, Windows netbooks have taken over most of the market after Microsoft began pushing Windows XP aggressively to netbook makers and consumers realized Linux netbooks didn't work well with some popular applications and devices.

Just another one sided review by someone who doesn't understand Linux and doesn't know XP. Also, his only complaints about the Linux netbooks dealt with drivers for external devices and applications not designed for Linux. So he had to change the fundamental purpose of the netbook to develop an "issue". They are netbooks, not laptops. Then he never once addressed the issue of performance or web security and virus protection vs XP. Useless.

His "issues" seemed to boil down to two main problems.

1) The hardware isn't as good as on a standard laptop (DVD drive)/

2) His hardware isn't compatible out of the box. I have never had a problem trying to get a printer working under Linux. Occasionally I've had to spend some time with scanners (and one all in one system I cant get it to be a scanner at all). As for moving photos from a camera I've always seen them as removable USB storage device

It seems this guy really doesn't want to like Linux and has spent so long learning the MS way and will defend his chosen OS no matter what.
