There have been rumors that Intel's new Atom CPU, Clover Trail, would only support Windows 8, but not Android or Linux. We now know that the chip will support these open-source operating systems as well.

All Intel has said is:

The rest of the article is pure speculation and misinterpretation as usual for zdnet.

What exactly do they mean by another version of this platform ? Is it another version of Clover Trail, or is it going to be called something else ?

I don't see where it says that Clover Trail will Support Linux. All they say is that another version of it will support Android, and will probably be locked-in. Linux support is in no way implied. Now, of course, probably independent developers may hack something that will work, but I don't see official support yet.

Clover Trail will have one of those dreaded PowerVR GPUs, so I doubt that there will Linux support for that chip. Android maybe, with a closed source driver for the GPU.
As I see it those chips are (currently) not worth anything on Linux.

It's true, even if Android gets a driver for CPU or GPU it will be closed source.
