Man, it doesn't seem too long since Jaunty was the newest stable distro and Karmic was still in Alpha! Now, I have Maverick Meerkat RC and am loving it more than I ever loved any older Ubuntu version.
Here's why: It is the kind of distro that newbies would be comfortable transitioning to. In particular, it has an easy partitioner that resembles Mac OS X's Boot Camp more than anything, giving newbies the capability to partition their HDD with one click and motion of the mouse.
It also has UTouch, which is even more innovative: It allows you to combine multiple touch gestures and create a sort-of "touch language" that can allow you to do many tasks that you couldn't do with Mac OS X or even Windows 7.
I have seen many PCWorld articles saying that touch in Windows or Mac OS X isn't good enough, in particular not being up to par with that on the iPhone or Android. Now they've got their dream with Ubuntu 10.10.
